Macedonian Traditional Dinner

We ended the summer season with our version of Macedonian traditional dinner – one of the most significant and challenging dinners we had ever experienced. No matter how low our confidence was in comparing our cooking with all the Macedonian grandmothers – the keepers of the most treasured culinary traditions, we excepted Bozidar’s offer to organise this authentic dinner in Vevcani.

Wanting to cherish the originality of it all and truly give an accent to the authenticity, we used traditional cooking equipment to prepare all the dishes on the menu. We have to admit that this kind of cooking was new and a bit difficult for us, but the flavour it gave to the food was magnificent!

The country side was the perfect place for hosting a dinner of this kind. Just imagine -hot summer day, big beautiful yard, wooden table spread under a thick shadow of a massive walnut, vintage tableware, wildflowers, people smiling…a true satisfaction!

Before you start gazing at the photographs, we would like to express our gratitude to all the beautiful people who participated in making this wonderful day come to life.

Turli tava  – typical Macedonian vegetable and meat stew (turli meaning mixed and tava, a pottery dish). For the meat we chose good quality shin of veal and pork, and seasonal vegetables including tomatoes, zucchini, onion, garlic, peppers, eggplant, carrot, ocra, parsley and green beans.
